Our Story
AJ and Sara started dating on April 15th, 2012. Sara had just returned to Orange County after graduating from San Francisco State University, while AJ was moving back from working as a ski instructor in Colorado.
“We were both searching for that special someone, and were matched online and then talked for months thousands of miles away while we waited anxiously to meet. Turns out we really were the perfect fit. We shared an interest in the outdoors, pets, cooking, and in being very active and social. We have created a loving relationship where we each care so much for one another and now it’s time we take the next big step in our adventure together by getting married.”
They lived together in California for a couple years, taking trips back to Colorado often. After a while, the mountains were calling, and Sara returned with AJ where they moved to the Denver Metro area. Adding to the family, they got a ferret named Little Foot, and are saving to buy a house to start their family of sled dogs.
Sara Falberg
“Sara is the most sincere person I have ever met. I often joke that she doesn’t have a bad bone in her body; she truly finds the happiness in everything. She’s always inspired me to be a better person, and to live a better life each and every day.” – AJ
Sara was born in San Jose, blue as a grape, and needed open heart surgery and a ton of avocados to stay alive. Two years later, her sister, and Maid of Honor, Jessica, was born. Her dad was an electrical engineer after his time in the Navy, and mom is a Marriage & Family Therapist and professor at Cal State Long Beach. Together, they moved to SoCal when she was 4, and grew up in Huntington Beach, spending lots of time on the water sailing and boating.
As a baby, her parents were told she would most likely not play sports…but she proved them wrong. She played soccer, Falberg Family football, and loved swimming (like, you could never get her out of the pool!). She also enjoyed spending time in Catalina on her dad’s boat, swimming, chasing waves on Crew Cut, and cruising around Avalon on the golf carts.
In 2009 she moved to San Francisco to get her bachelor’s in Psychology at San Francisco State University. Luckily, her grandparents and aunt and uncle were not too far away, so she always had a delicious home cooked meal and much needed family time. After graduating college, she moved down south, where her aunt suggested she work for a company providing support to kids with special needs. Turned out to be the best job, and she continues to work within this demographic.
Throughout her life, she has made life-long friends (some as long as 25+ years). These friends, ranging from Florida to California, honor her by being by her side when she says “I do!”
AJ Haase
“I remember the first time I met AJ and thought he looks like he just walked out of the woods with his shaggy hair and bushy beard! Little did I know, he would be my biggest supporter and life coach. He always strives to be a better man than he was yesterday; this has been a huge inspiration for me. He never ceases to amaze me or make me laugh; whether it is one of his ‘dad jokes’ or his ambition to move us to Colorado. He is my best friend and my traveling partner.” – Sara
Anthony grew up moving often, living in every region of the United States, but fell in love with Colorado at an early age. Spending time with his Uncles that also lived there, he learned to be an avid outdoorsman and appreciate time in the wilderness. Summers were usually spent at his dad’s in Arkansas, which often involved visiting his late Aunt Rita, and riding 4wheelers, camping, fishing, boating and more with his older brother Matt.
In high school, he settled down in Newport Beach with his mother and younger brother Chad, where he completed school at CdM, then college at CSULB, as his grandfather and mother did before him.
He made lifelong friends from high school and college, a close knit group that have been together for over a decade. They honor him in being groomsmen today, with Gilles, his hunting partner and best friend as his best man.
He stole my heart, so I'm taking his last name.
